Rams January 2022 Newsletter

Hi everyone,

We hope you had a great break and managed to get some quality time with your families over the school holidays. The club has started the 2022 year with a bang with growing numbers in all teams from Juniors up to Senior women’s and men’s.

Here is a quick update on what has been going on and whats coming up:

REGISTRATIONS ARE OPEN FOR 2022

Registrations are open for all age groups and seniors so please get on and lock in. Players need to be registered to be eligible for tours, tournaments and training programs.

Rugby Rep News

Last year the club eagerly awaited the Samoa vs Barbarians Test match scheduled for Twickenham. We had two former and one current player in the Samoan team (Afa Amosa, John Ulugia & Sinoti Sinoti) and 1 former player in the Barbarians team (Pete Samu). Unfortunately, Covid struck and the match was cancelled.  After this disappointment, Sinoti regrouped and shifted his focus back to the Dewar Shield comp. He is registered for 2022 and says being part of a family club with a strong coaching team and committed player base is a big part of his love for the Rams. We look forward  to Sinoti lighting up the Dewar Shield and the hot stepper has secured his licence to thrill for 2022!!!

Lindroth Cup - Women’s Rugby

Konisi and Titilia Yabaki have been busy getting the women and girls training underway and with strong numbers the team/s are shaping well. "We could do with more forwards, but its nice to have strong fast women in the team at this stage of the season" says Titilia.  The women’s team have secured a spot in the Kiama 7s and the club is supporting the players who want to tour.

Antonio Bale has also just joined the coaching team as the Backs coach.

Juniors U11-U15s

The junior coaching teams return from 2021 and will launch the pre-season and training sessions with Junior training camps set for Sunday 27th February and Sunday 13th of March 2022. The sessions are planned to be structured to introduce kids to the game as well and provide more advanced development for kids who have been playing for some time. The sessions will be in the morning for 2hours and will end with a BBQ.

Dewar Shield - Senior Men

The pre-season training block before Christmas as extremely successful with coaches, the S&C team working to get players into programs over summer. With some new faces joining the club the teams are looking even stronger this year and training sessions are hotting up, not just due to the weather. The Men’s 7s team will have  trials next week for selection to the team to tour to the Kiama 7s. We have pre-season matches locked in for March  and April (Unicorns and Quins), at Moorabbin, the calendar is filling up quickly

Masters

The masters are slowly building through the Friday night touch and we look forward to launching our Friday 10s for local masters players who want a social run.

Summer Touch Competitions

The Moorabbin Touch Association competition on Wednesday nights is into its last month as is the social rugby touch 7s on Fridays so get down and get involved. They are fun packed sessions that the whole family can participate in. The school touch competitions will continue through to April on Saturdays.
