Rams History - “The Old Tin Shed”

For 20 years Moorabbin Rugby utilised a collection of sheds and garages to act as our Club Rooms. They were situated South of the rooms we have today.
The original rooms came to be known as the “Old Tin Shed” which was probably a good description for them.

When the Rams first located to Keys Rd there were no changing facilities whatsoever, and Harold Caterson donated a Steel Garage which was to become our first home.
In following years another garage was added, wood fired showers were built and a veranda was closed in. By modern standards it was still very primitive and the only toilets available were the old “thunder box” variety. No sewerage connection at all.

The Shed became both our Changing Rooms and Social Rooms, with spectators crammed into one half after a game, whilst the players showered and changed in the other half.
All separated by bi fold doors which were opened once the players were dressed.
A Bar was set up at one end and over the years enough beer was consumed to fund a large brewery.
The sheds were not only our Social Rooms, but were also utilised for Engagements, 21st Birthdays, Buck Nights and Private Parties.

After our new Pavillion was built in the mid 60’s, the sheds were still used as the 1st grade change room but the rest fell into disrepair and became a Weight Room and Storage area.
The sheds were eventually demolished to make way for further expansions, but to those who experienced the wonderful atmosphere we had in those days are sure to have many memories.
